Release Policy

Best Practical provides support for two release series at a time. When a new release is made, an end of life date is announced for the oldest series still supported. When Request Tracker 4.2.0 was announced, we announced an end of life for the 3.8 series. We've released RT 4.4.0, so we have announced end of life for the 4.0 series on February 15, 2017.

Within a series, we aim for frequent point releases. These allow us to quickly make bugfixes available as a tested and packaged release. Each release is small and well-contained, making upgrades easier for your ops teams.

We avoid adding features or new dependencies to a stable series whenever possible. Occasionally a critical bugfix or security fix will require us to add a new feature or dependency in a stable series.

Version Numbers

Versions consist of a major series, minor series and point release. RT 4.2.12 is major series 4, minor series 2, and point release 12.

We always recommend that users run the latest point release of the series they are using.
